State-Wide, Interagency Efforts on Homelessness to Housing

    With many Nevadans currently homeless, or in danger of becoming homeless, the Nevada Legislature identified the need for collaboration between the many agencies and organizations that work to alleviate the stresses of housing insecurity across our state. There are many organizations working with homeless populations, but the efforts may not always be as efficient or affective as possible because of duplicated services, or gaps in services, with the assumption others have programs in place.

      The Nevada Interagency Advisory Council on Homelessness to Housing is established by Assembly Bill 174 , introduced by Representative Tyrone Thompson and supported/sponsored unanimously in the Senate and Assembly during the 2019 Legislative session, then signed into law by Governor Sisolak. The Council is an adaptation/continuation of Nevada’s Governor’s Interagency Council on Homelessness, established by Governor Brian Sandoval through an executive order in 2013.

      The Council is responsible for collaborating with state and local agencies to promote cooperation among federal, state, and local agencies. The Council will develop a strategic plan to combat housing insecurity, increase awareness of issues related to homelessness, collaborate with and request the assistance for experts in reducing housing insecure populations, and report progress on the state-wide efforts on homelessness to housing. Technical assistance committees will include community partners and other agencies to better communicate the needs and best practices in homelessness to housing for all Nevadans.
