Division of Public and Behavioral Health Warns Against New Scam Calls
The Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) is warning against a new series of calls where scammers pretend to be DPBH employees by manipulating their caller IDs.
DPBH received reports from scam targets noting that callers falsely claim that the target’s name was used for a prescription in another state, or instruct the target to visit an in-person office or speak with someone fraudulently posing as a law enforcement officer.
The scams attempt to get the target to immediately pay money or inadvertently disclose their personal health information. These calls have targeted both members of the public and DPBH’s partner organizations.
“We encourage Nevadans to stay vigilant and immediately disconnect all calls they find suspicious,” DPBH Deputy Administrator Julia Peek said. “DPBH will never contact our constituents through an unsolicited phone call to discuss personal benefit status, confirm prescription activity, or threaten to file a police report.”
DPBH will also never transfer callers to law enforcement immediately over the phone.
If you think you have been targeted by this scam, please contact your local law enforcement agency. For more information on how to protect yourself from scam calls like these, visit the FCC’s website.
